Most lamps light for a few seconds when you power the car on. That check is not a fault by itself. This page does not replace the owner’s manual for your model year and market. Icons are schematic illustrations used on this site. They are not offered as the vehicle maker’s artwork, and they have not been checked against it. They may not match the lamp on your cluster. Urgency levels are this site’s classification, not the maker’s. If they differ from the manual, follow the manual.
What it means
This lamp watches the airbag control unit, the crash sensors, the inflators, and their wiring. It should light for a few seconds when you power on and then go out. If it stays on, never lights during that check, or comes back while driving, the restraint system may not deploy in a crash.
What to do
Have the system inspected before you rely on the car. Avoid further trips if you can. Keep wearing the belts: an airbag does not replace a belt, and a fault here can also involve the belt pretensioners. Do not hang objects from the steering wheel or fit covers that block a deploying bag.

Common questions
- The lamp went out after a few seconds. Is the system all right?
- That is the normal self-check. The fault case is a lamp that stays on, never appears at power-on, or returns while you drive.
- Can I keep driving to a workshop?
- The car may still be able to move, and that does not mean the airbags will work. Contact a service provider first and ask whether it should be towed. If you must move the car, keep the trip as short as you can.
