Most lamps light for a few seconds when you power the car on. That check is not a fault by itself. This page does not replace the owner’s manual for your model year and market. Icons are schematic illustrations used on this site. They are not offered as the vehicle maker’s artwork, and they have not been checked against it. They may not match the lamp on your cluster. Urgency levels are this site’s classification, not the maker’s. If they differ from the manual, follow the manual.
What it means
This blue lamp means the high-beam headlamps are on. You turn them on by pushing the light stalk forward. They go off when you pull the stalk back, switch the headlamps off, or power the car down. If the car has high-beam assist, a separate assist lamp can show that the car is allowed to switch beams for you. This blue lamp is still the one that means the high beams themselves are lit. A yellow headlamp-fault lamp is a different warning.
What to do
Dip the beams when you follow another vehicle, when you meet one, and in fog or snow where the bright beam reflects back. No workshop visit is needed for a blue lamp that matches the stalk. If a yellow headlamp warning is on instead, have the lamp unit checked.
Common questions
- The blue lamp is on in town. Is something wrong?
- The lamp is only reporting that the high beams are lit. Pull the stalk back to dip them. Other drivers are being dazzled while it stays on.
- A yellow lamp about the headlamps came on. Is that this one?
- No. A yellow headlamp warning means a lamp unit has a fault and should be checked. This blue lamp is only the high-beam status.
