Check soon

Most lamps light for a few seconds when you power the car on. That check is not a fault by itself. This page does not replace the owner’s manual for your model year and market. Icons are schematic illustrations used on this site. They are not offered as the vehicle maker’s artwork, and they have not been checked against it. They may not match the lamp on your cluster. Urgency levels are this site’s classification, not the maker’s. If they differ from the manual, follow the manual.

What it means

The seat-belt lamp lights when a monitored buckle is open after the car is powered on. It stays on until that belt is fastened. If the car moves with a belt still open, a chime is added. The cluster can mark which seat is open. Export Song Plus and Seal U manuals monitor the front seats, and the European Seal U also reminds for the rear seats. The cluster marks the open buckle.

What to do

Fasten every occupied belt before you move. The lap section sits low on the hips and the diagonal section crosses the chest. If the lamp stays on after the buckle clicks, that buckle may not be reading the latch. Use another seat until it is checked.

Common questions

The lamp is on and the belt is fastened. What now?
Click the latch firmly once more. If the lamp stays on, that buckle is not seeing the tongue. Use another seat until the buckle is checked.
It chimes as soon as the car rolls. Is that a fault?
The chime is the reminder that a monitored belt is still open. Fasten it. The lamp alone, before you move, is the same reminder without the sound.
