Most lamps light for a few seconds when you power the car on. That check is not a fault by itself. This page does not replace the owner’s manual for your model year and market. Icons are schematic illustrations used on this site. They are not offered as the vehicle maker’s artwork, and they have not been checked against it. They may not match the lamp on your cluster. Urgency levels are this site’s classification, not the maker’s. If they differ from the manual, follow the manual.

What it means

The circled P is the electric parking brake. A steady lamp means the brake is holding the car. It flashes while the brake is applying or releasing, then stays on once the car confirms the hold. It should be out before you drive. A lamp that keeps flashing, or a message that asks you to check the parking brake, is a fault rather than a normal hold. The Han uses this same circled P. Auto hold is a different lamp and does not replace this one when you leave the car.

What to do

With your foot on the service brake, release the parking brake or select a gear and wait until the lamp goes out. If it will not release, or it keeps flashing, leave the car secured and have the parking brake checked. Do not force it to roll.

Common questions

The circled P is steady while I am parked. Do I need a workshop?
A steady lamp with the car parked means the parking brake is holding the car. That is the normal applied state. It should go out when the brake releases.
It flashes and will not go out. Can I drive?
Do not drive off. A lamp that keeps flashing means the parking brake did not finish applying or releasing. Secure the car and have the system checked.
